What makes our cloth so special?
English Cloth produces some of the world's finest worsted tailoring fabrics. Here's a little insight as to why they are so desirable..
In an industry that is highly competitive and increasingly price driven, we remain steadfast in our mission to produce only the purest quality of cloth. We believe in making things better, not cheaper. The minute you do the opposite, you can expect problems. English Cloth produces fabrics for discerning men and women who appreciate the history of English cloth and its superior nature. It is easy to make acceptable fabrics but it takes time and care to produce desirable and worthy tailoring cloth. It would be a terrible injustice to our heritage if we did anything contrary.
Here in Huddersfield, we are blessed with the industry's most prodigious and precious cloth manufacturing knowledge, which has been passed down from generation to generation. Huddersfield also sits on the convergence of two very important rivers - the River Colne and River Holme. Yorkshire's 'Pennine' hills are filled with Millstone Grit, which is entrained by these rivers and gives Yorkshire water its soft nature which is perfect for fabric finishing. The combination of these two factors are what make 'Made in Huddersfield' fabrics the ultimate desirable for master tailors and high-end fashion houses around the world.
English Cloth strives to excel and we do not believe in substandards or impurities. Every stage of the maufacturing process get our utmost attention and we do not accept inferior quality or cutting corners.
From choosing superior micron fibres and yarns, carrying out thorough yarn inspection, utilising time-honoured weaving methods and placing our fabrics in the trusted hands of world renowned fabric finishers (W.T. Johnson & Sons), our cloth receives first class treatment at all times.
We work closely with W.T. Johnson & Sons, who have mastered the art of fine fabric finishing. With their expertise, we are able to offer innovative finishes such as the 'V.V.', a 7-process finish which gives our Four Seasons collection a permanent press, adding lustre and durability which is retained throughout the tailoring process and the lifetime of the garment. 'London Shrunk', the opposite of innovative, is a time-honoured shrinking method that relaxes the cloth to its natural width to give it optimal drape. Possibly the most luxurious and useful finishes for tailors, as it does not alter during the tailoring process or under steam pressing. Cooling, antibacterial and water-resistant are just an example of other finishes available, which can be added to our existing collections or special development work.
